- Have been a volunteer fundraiser since 1996 for Macmillan Cancer Support
- Have also been involved in local community charities such as my local Village Hall and more recently the campaign to save Maer Hills
- Joined Breath of Life in 2003 as their Appeals Coordinator – a catch all title for fundraiser, publicity manager, administrator and anything else that needs doing
About Breath of Life:
Breath of Life is a registered charity set up in 1996 to improve the lot of anyone in North Staffordshire with lung disease. We fund research into the causes treatments and cures of lung disease, provide medical equipment and raise awareness of lung health issues.
Lung disease is North Staffordshire’s biggest killer, claiming the lives of one in 5 people locally, whether from chronic bronchitis, emphysema, lung cancer, asthma, cystic fibrosis or one of many rarer conditions. Despite this it is an area which is under-funded both in terms of research and facilities.
Recently we have funded research in Stoke on Trent which found one of the genes that causes asthma. We have also provided the Guy Hilton Research Centre in Stoke on Trent with a respiratory laboratory as well as providing many pieces of equipment to hospitals, clinics and GP’s surgeries. We regularly visit shopping centres to give free lung health tests and advice.
We are about to launch our biggest ever appeal – our 10th Anniversary Cystic Fibrosis Appeal to provide facilities for young people with Cystic Fibrosis at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire. For more details please visit our website.
